Join PLS’s Medieval World Drama Working Group (MWDWG) for a new season of readings, designed to build toward our full-scale production of the medieval York Corpus Christi Plays in June 2025. This year, we will pair readings from the Middle English York Plays with global dramatic counterparts, to explore a deeper understanding of medieval drama from around the world.

These free sessions will be held one Wednesday per month from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. For people in Toronto, the meetings will happen in person in JHB 100 – accessed from the lobby of the Jackman Humanities Building at 170 St George Street, at the corner of St George and Bloor.

In-person attendance is strongly preferable (this is live drama, after all!), but if it doesn’t work for you a Zoom option will be available. Email info@plspls.ca for the link.

The first session on September 25, 2024 features Rama’s Last Act, translated from Sanskrit/Prakrit, read alongside the York Transfiguration.

These informal cold readings provide a space to discover and engage with the texts together, as we prepare for our culminating event: York Plays 2025. Scheduled for June 7, 2025, this all-day event will recreate the original York production. Seventeen performance groups from across North America will stage the plays outdoors at the University of Toronto.

All are welcome to join us for the upcoming readings, leading up to our large-scale production. To learn more about MWDWG and all the upcoming readings, visit premodernity.net/mwdwg.
